Become a guitar maker!
There are no specific secondary educational requirements for musical instrument makers/repairers, although some training in metalwork, woodwork, technical drawing is preferred, and a basic knowledge of chemistry, math and art is also useful. Design technology and graphic design courses are recommended. Most of the top musical instrument makers such as violinmakers have trained in Europe, and many instrument makers prefer to employ graduates with a diploma from an accredited instrument making school. Useful experience for musical instrument makers/repairers includes: woodworking, metalworking, welding and work as a musician or in a music store. Basic electronics knowledge helps with repairing electric guitars and other electric instruments. It\'s also helpful to keep abreast of new developments and keeping in touch with other makers enables you to change your methods, to be more efficient, or to be more creative.
