A chef does many things like supervising and coordinating the kitchen staff, pick and develop recipes, order supplies, and help in food preparation. Although a formal education is not necessary to become a chef, most large restaurant chefs have been to a culinary school or have formal cooking experience. The skills you need to know to become a chef are how to plan menus, create recipes estimate food requirements, and how to order supplies. You need to have good leadership, organizational skills, and communication skills. You need to have the ability to supervise, train, motivate, and to coordinate kitchen personal. Also, one needs the ability to handle a lot of pressure. You need to work well with the staff. Another skill you need is that you got be familiar with local health, safety, and sanitation regulations. One skill that is important is good business skills and math skills.
