For example, a sportscaster must have an intense knowledge of sports; they must know about a variety of different sports, the teams, their history and the players. Likewise, a DJ on a music-oriented radio must have an in-depth knowledge of the artists they play and the music those artists have recorded. Even though it is not necessary to have a college degree, it might help to take a few radio courses. However, be sure to look for a program that stresses "hands on" training over classroom lectures. Radio station managers are more likely to hire a person with practical experience over classroom theory.
